Hi, I’m Amber — welcome to Both Sides of the Suitcase.
I’m a mom who’s learned to travel two very different ways. On one side, there’s the version of me packing snacks, activity books, and a backup outfit (or three), navigating airports and road trips with kids in tow. On the other side, there’s the version of me packing light for a weekend getaway with my husband, or a much-needed girls’ trip — no car seats, no “are we there yet,” just a little breathing room.
Both sides are real. Both sides matter. And I’ve realized that most travel content out there only speaks to one side or the other — either it’s all family-friendly resort roundups, or it’s all couples’ honeymoon inspiration. I wanted a place that speaks to the whole picture: trips with kids, and trips without them, because most moms I know are navigating both.
Here, you’ll find practical packing lists, real tips for surviving travel with little ones, destination guides for family-friendly spots, and inspiration for the kid-free getaways that help you come back recharged. No fluff, no unrealistic “just relax and enjoy” advice — just what’s actually worked for my family and the trips we’ve taken, on both sides of the suitcase.
Thanks for being here — grab a coffee, start planning, and let’s figure out your next trip together, whichever side of the suitcase you’re packing for.
